Kuma, 10 week old British Blue vs Scottish Fold kitten. We adopted him on July 3rd, 2022. After our vet visit, Dr. Lair (SCAH) indicated that he is 5-6 weeks old.
He was sickly when we got him, weak, almost a Gumby-kitten who would stay in any position you put him in.
His eyes were goobery, his stools were watery, and he would pee anywhere he saw fit, generally a mess.
As he settled in, he had a plethora of health issues. Diarrhea, then a UTI, then PNA, all in the constellation of systemic inflammation.
When he began to have seizures on August 9th, we knew something was terribly wrong.
We spent the night in the Sorrento Valley Specialty Hospital/ED and they kept him overnight to see our, now Neurologist Dr. Geiger.
Dr. Geiger was the first person to look at the entire case and began to draw the conclusion that we could be dealing with FIP.
We had seen a YouTube video by the Kitten Lady about the experimental tx she had used on her baby cat Coco, so we had some idea there was hope.
As soon as the tests started returning, pointing the way to FIP and the US sealed the diagnosis, I reached out to the FIP Warriors group and was already on my way to acquiring the emergency start kit for the Capella 15mg/mL injectable solution for Kuma.
We started this journey on August 12 and are now on day 8 of injections.
We are praying for a good outcome, and, so far, Kuma has weathered this process well.
Our vet, Dr. Lair with Sunset Cliffs Animal Hospital, has been very supportive and she will be our point of contact for any ancillary and supportive care we might need.
Please send all the positive energy you can spare for us and for our Kuma-kun as we make this journey together.
